A HEALTHY heart connotes a healthy well-being. The need to care for our own heart is vital in order to attain supreme well-being, thereby maximizing our own potentials. That is the very reason why, Hon. City Mayor Jeffrey Jubal C. Nalupta thought of this project in a spur of the moment, in celebration of the Heart’s Month. A wholehearted gift to the whole citizenry of Batac and true to his commitment to public service, free blood pressure check-up at the Batac Public Market is being offered every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays during market time at 7:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.

This project started on the Feast Day of St. Valentine, February 14, 2012. Since heart disease is number one cause of death in men and women, greater than the next five causes of death combined, as statistics show. The need to care for one’s heart is very important.

The whole City Government of Batac together with the City Health Office Personnel and Volunteer Nurses were tasked to offer such project of the City Mayor. According to them, an average of about a hundred individuals availing the program during market times and almost 20% of them have had high blood pressure and were advised to seek consultations to the City Health Officer, Dr. Alicia A. Agbayani for further evaluation on their heart condition. Since people who have high blood pressure can take steps to control it and reduce their risk of related health problems. Key steps of which include following a healthy lifestyle, having ongoing medical care and following your treatment plan.

Because of this statistics, Mayor Jef also vowed to even increase the medicine supplies to treat/curb high blood pressure in the City Health Office. And even thought of offering free blood sugar determination in the coming days for the Bataqueños to be more health conscious nowadays.In addition, fifteen more barangays will be benefited with the Barangay Medical/Dental Mission this summer starting on March 13, 2012. All of these programs will be beneficial to the health conditions of the whole populace of the City of Batac. After all, health is our greatest wealth.

The BP monitoring station is situated at the Public Assistance Area near the Public Utility Buses’ Terminal at the Batac Public Market.
